Did You Know?
Did you know that the sanctuary movement is an interfaith effort to protect immigrant families from being separated by deportation? The Dane Sanctuary Coalition has formed to support our neighbors in the Madison area who may be facing deportation, and Lake Edge Lutheran Church has recently joined the coalition. The sanctuary movement focuses on education, advocacy, and direct service as needed.

Order by December 3
A beautiful poinsettia garden will adorn the Altar this Christmas. On November 26th and December 3rd a member of the Altar Guild will be taking poinsettia orders in the narthex between services. The cost of each plant is $16.00. Prepayment is required. You may pick your poinsettia up after worship on Christmas Day. Any poinsettia not picked up by January 7th will be given to a homebound member, a local nursing home or someone in need of cheering up. On behalf of the congregation and the Altar Guild we thank you for your past orders and rely on you to once again be part of this festive tradition
Cristo Rey Scholarship Program
Lake Edge has had a relationship with Cristo Rey in Santa Ana, El Salvador for 25 years. Several years ago we asked Pr. Carlos how we could help them. He said the best thing we could do was to provide an education for the children. Education is not mandatory and requires the student to wear a uniform and have their own school supplies. The cost to send a child to school is about $100.00, a month’s income for a family. Every fall Lake Edge members provide scholarship funds, which are wired to Cristo Rey in January before the start of their school year. We have been able to support around 150 children each year. Some of the children have actually been able to pursue educational opportunities after high school. If you wish to participate in this program, please identify your donation as Cristo Rey Scholarship. There are cards in the fellowship area if you wish to donate in someone’s name as an alternative holiday gift.

Hurricane Harvey Relief
Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast of the United States on Aug. 25, 2017, threatening millions of people with multiple days of heavy rain, winds and rising tides. While many have evacuated, thousands of people may be housed in shelters for an extended period of time. Lutheran Disaster Response’s affiliate is actively present, collaborating with community leaders and officials to initiate the proper responses, particularly the long-term recovery efforts. Lutheran Disaster Response will be there to accompany those affected through every phase of this disaster. We invite you to stand by our neighbors on the Gulf Coast during this time. Your financial gifts allow our church to provide help and hope for those left homeless or otherwise affected for years to come. Gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response, designated for "Hurricane Response – United States" will be used entirely (100%) for this disaster until the response is complete. Together, we can help provide immediate and long-lasting support. Give today to support the needs in this response and others like it. Thank you for your generosity!
