Did You Know?
Prison reentry programs help to prevent crime? According to a recent study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, 5 out of 6 state prisoners were arrested at least once during the nine years after their release. High rates of recidivism mean more crime, more victims, and more pressure on the criminal justice system. Madison Urban Ministries provides prison reentry programming in Dane County through its Journey Home program. The program helps incarcerated individuals successfully transition to their community after they are released from prison. The program reduces recidivism by focusing on issues like housing, employment, transportation, education, and treatment. Since 2006, the 2-year recidivism rate for MUM re-entry services participants is between 5-14% compared to a statewide recidivism rate of 67%. In the 2014 Midterm election, only 55% of Wisconsin voters turned out to vote. The 2018 Midterm election is Tuesday, Nov. 6, Make a plan to make your voice heard! Go to https://myvote.wi.gov/ to register, find your polling place, and preview your ballot.
